While I've had no lack of greedy squirrels coming to my feeders this winter, I haven't seen too many birds. So I was delighted to find this Hairy Woodpecker flitting about the tree on my front lawn today. He stopped in long enough to grab a little sustenance from my suet cakes.
I used to live on a farm with about 2 acres of land. I loved it. One day I'll buy something similar again. I used to have all sorts of birds come to my feeders. One of my favourite ways to spend a Saturday morning was to sit by the windows closest to the feeders and quietly stalk the birds w/ my camera. I kept track of all the different birds and looked them up when I didn't know what type they were. At my new place, in town, I'm having trouble attracting many birds, and this winter am getting nothing other than chickadees anyhow. Except for these guys pictured above. While I haven't successfully lured the local bird population to my yard, I seem to have no problem attracting greedy little grey & black squirrels with seemingly bottomless appetites!
Happy Saturday morning to you! |
